Christian Education

Sunday School

Sunday Church School classes for toddlers through 5th grade meet on Sunday mornings September-May/June at 9:45 AM.
  • Ages 2 through 4 meet in the nursery with Corinne Sigai
  • Kindergarten through 2nd grade meet in room #16
  • Grades 3-5 meet in room #20 at the end of the hall

Confirmation class (Grades 6-8) will meet in the Youth Room (#12).

Other opportunities for the Sunday School children include the Annual Christmas and Easter programs. The Sunday School year begins in early September with Celebration Sunday and an end-of-the-year celebration takes place in late May/early June.

A complete schedule of events is planned at the beginning of each Sunday School year and newsletters and flyers are sent home periodically to help keep parents informed. Of course, parents are requested and encouraged to be active helping with and visiting in the classes of their children.

First Communion

Students in Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade who have not received First Communion instruction, please contact Pastor Carr.

Confirmation

In order to prepare teenagers to take on the responsibilities of growing in their relationship with God, a Catechism ministry is offered, which is the centerpiece of St. Mark’s work with middle school-age youth. The three-year program offered for our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students uses a small group model. This ministry emphasizes growing relationships between young people and their Lord. Relationships with the church, peers and other adults is also highlighted.

The Bible is the basic textbook and the Apostles' Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments and the Sacraments are explored through the tenets of the Lutheran faith. Working with the young people is the Pastor and adult small group mentors.
Components of this ministry are learning workshops, servant requirements and retreat/fellowship events, all of which are explained and a complete schedule distributed during an orientation session held in the early fall.

Confirmands who successfully complete all requirements participate in the Rite of Confirmation and Affirmation of Baptism, which takes place on Pentecost Sunday during the Contemporary Worship service.

Adult Bible Study

Starting September 24th, Bible Study occurs in the Social Hall on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM with Pastor Carr. You can also gather starting at 6:45 for coffee and socializing beforehand.

Please note that Bible Study is paused during Lent while weekly services are held.
